bike season.
It’s finally here! Bike season! The weather is warm enough to turn in the tram pass and pull the bikes out of the shed. My bike had a lovely 6 month winter nap and it was happy to wake the heck up this week. Biking is definitely my favorite way to get around town. Maybe it’s because it makes me feel European or something. Everyone here ride bikes, so it’s usually a fun way to get around.
Why I Prefer My Bike Over the Tram
1) Travel Time. Depending on speed, it takes me about 15 – 20 minutes to get to the city center by bicycle. Taking the tram takes even longer with a 10 minute walk to the tram stop and a 13 minute ride to the city center.
2) Schedule. On my bike, I have my own schedule. I can go whenever I want. This is particularly important at night when the trams slow to running only every 20 minutes, then every 30 minutes until finally they run only on the hour. So many nights I end up staying out an hour later because I just missed the Night Liner.
3) Route. Just as you can go whenever you want, you can go wherever you want. With trams, you may have to go from point A to C (switch trams) to get to B. With the bike, it’s always A to B.
4) Excercise. Because we all know it doesn’t hurt to burn some extra calories to-and-from the bar.
5) Money. Riding my bike is FREE!
biking into the city is even better when you can do it with your neighbors

sounds awesome, get your spin on, lady! : ) enjoy the weekend!
I'm so stoked about biking weather, and broke out my landlord's super old school bike!
Awesome, i tell ya!
ummmm, I AM OFFICIALLY OBSESSED WITH BIKE SEASON! The weather today is ridiculously nice! In fact, I think i'll go for another bike ride now!
ah, this is why you have to come to amsterdam, STAT! bikes bikes everywhere. TGIF
That picture is really breathtaking. I'm so jealous that you can bike everywhere. I would totally bike to school, if biking to campus wasn't one of the most dangerous things ever.
i love my bike just got to make a few adjustment to get the kinks out
I'd love be able to ride my bike places, but I'd be riding for days! I'm so envious!
i miss my german biking adventures. dearly. i need to move back.
Oh wow, what a great picture you took!
I came here thinking, "Okay Alex. Convince me to buy a bike to travel my city!" and you so did. I'd been thinking it for a while anyway, but now I'm hopping on craigslist and finding one TODAY!
Oh, and I'm glad you liked my post!
I think I might get intimidated biking in Amsterdam but totally willing to give it a shot!
haha that's exactly how my university campus was – you were not a real student until you saw someone get hit by a car on their bike
haha same for me back in Houston – I wouldn't dare use a bike as an actual mode of transport
just awesome! I don't know if you have any flea markets around you but they always have great cheap bikes at the ones in germany
